I have had tweetdeck for about 2 weeks now and love it! I'm positive it doesn't say your online because you have no way of responding to any message due to the fact that you don't have a browser window open to respond in. And based on my use of tweetdeck I haven't had any complaints that I don't respond to anyones' conversations.
Simply an observation :)

still on the edge about this, trying it out and I think I might like it so far. Just to clarify, it keeps updating if i'm signed onto tweetdeck. But does it show i'm online for the facebook chat?
I'm not certain about that.

I'm not certain it does. We could probably test it in lab and see if it does.
